Contract Financial Auditor

The Team You Will Be Joining
Our client is Texas’s premier state public health agency, dedicated to improving community health, safety, and well-being. The agency ensures the fair and effective stewardship of public resources, managing vital health grants and statewide emergency response initiatives.
Major Duties
- Perform targeted financial monitoring reviews of state-contracted entities. Analyze general ledgers, financial statements, independent audits, and backup documentation to verify cost allocations and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Develop working papers, financial summaries, and formal monitoring reports. Reconcile contract-required documents to financial reports, highlight internal control deficiencies, and recommend actionable corrective steps.
- Provide guidance to contractors and internal teams regarding grant compliance, cost allowability, and financial system adequacy. Mentor newer team members as needed.
- Assist with researching relevant state and federal laws, updating financial reporting processes, and supporting agency emergency response obligations if activated.
What are we looking for?
- Hands-on auditor or accounting experience with a strong ability to evaluate general ledgers, trace cost allocations, and verify supporting documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to open communication, asking questions early, and supporting teammates during downtime.
- Degree with at least 15 college-level hours in accounting (preferred).
- Familiarity with federal or state grant management, government health care programs, and auditing software such as TeamMate or QuickBooks (preferred).
Exciting Opportunity Details
- Rate: $44.00/hour
- Length of Engagement: 6 month assignment potential for future extensions
- Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid)
