The Ventura County Electrical Apprenticeship Program is the training program for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 952, in conjunction with the Ventura Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association. Both the IBEW and the Local 952 chapter of the organization have deeply rooted histories in Ventura County and the United States.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers was founded in 1891 by a group of electricians who wanted a safer workplace, fair wages, and respect for the service they rendered through their labors. Since 1891, the IBEW has grown from a handful of pioneers to the largest electrical union in the world. The IBEW comprises working men and women in the electrical industry, committed to bettering themselves and the industry. IBEW Local Union 952 was founded in 1937 and continues to be the voice of the electrical construction industry in Ventura County.
The U.S. electrical contracting industry comprises over 70,000 electrical contracting firms employing over 650,000 electrical workers. In this massive and crucial industry, the IBEW and NECA ensure that workers are represented fairly and feel supported in their trade.
NECA members are electrical contractors who work in all aspects of electrical construction. While most qualify as small businesses, large, multi-area electrical contracting firms are also association members. NECA contractors set the standard for traditional and integrated electrical systems and lead the industry in the practical application of new technologies. NECA contractors employ IBEW Electrical Workers, the industry’s most highly trained and reliable workforce.

How Do I Apply?
To apply for the Ventura County Electrical Apprenticeship Program, you must first complete an online application form and submit the required documentation. Your application and documentation will be evaluated to determine whether you meet the minimum requirements. Visit www.electricalcareersvc.com for more information.
Basic Qualifications
The minimum requirements for the Ventura County Electrical Apprenticeship Program include the following:
- You must be a minimum of 18 years old at the time of application
- You must have a valid government issued photo ID at the time of application
- You must show evidence that you have either:
- Graduated High School
- Completed GED Requirements
- Earned an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s Degree, or higher
- You must show evidence that you have either completed:
- One year (two-semesters) of Algebra, or higher, while in High School
- One Semester of Algebra, or higher, while in college
- The etA Online Tech Math Program (available at OnlineTechMath )
Minimum requirements #3 and #4 can be waived if you have been working for an electrical construction contractor and can provide documentation that you have accumulated 4000 hours or more of experience. Documentation must consist of payroll and/or tax records.
Applicants who have served in the US Military will be required to submit a complete DD-214. For those Veterans accepted into our apprenticeship, we are a GI Bill Approved Training Program.
If you meet the basic requirements, you will be scheduled to take the etA Aptitude Test Battery. This test consists of reading comprehension and algebra.
If you obtain a qualifying score on the aptitude test, you will be scheduled for an interview with the Ventura County Electrical Apprenticeship committee.
Based on your interview and a review of your qualifications, you will receive an overall ranking. Your name will be placed on the eligibility list for two years. As new positions with the apprenticeship program become available, applicants may receive an offer of apprenticeship based on their ranking on the eligibility list.
If you are selected to receive an offer of apprenticeship, you will be required to submit to drug testing and/or a background check.
