Southeast Iowa Electrical Apprenticeship accepting Applications
Installing conduit, wiring, and equipment for electrical systems in residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial settings.
Apprenticeship is an “Earn while you learn” training program. Each apprentice is employed full-time, earning a paycheck, learning on-the-job skills from the seasoned Journeymen professionals while also attending180-hours of annual classroom/lab training. 4-year Systematic Program includes 8,000 hours of paid On-The-Job Training and 720 hours of Related Study (classroom & lab).
The apprenticeship program is tuition free, and therefore student loan debt free at the time of graduation. Apprentices pay only for books, laptop, and their personal tools.

Inside Wiremen perform construction installation, maintenance for commercial, industrial complexes, including power generation, chemical, grain handling, foundry, and manufacturing plants; also office buildings and all retail stores, hospitals, schools and universities.Types of work include Electrical Power, Lighting Systems, Power Distribution, Metering Systems, Motor Control, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Building Automation Systems, Energy Management Systems, Packaging Systems, Manufacturing Systems, Refining Systems, Backup Power Generation Systems, Uninterruptible Power Supply Systems, Green Energy Systems, Solar Photovoltaic, Wind TurbinesProgram details
It is a competitive application process.
This apprenticeship program offers the apprentice a standard set of seven wage increases starting at $21.01 an hour and currently culminating at a completion wage of $42.02 an hour. Pension and health insurance coverage are benefits in addition to the stated hourly wages.
Requirements
General Qualifications-Admission Requirements:• Must provide evidence of a valid driver's license. (Work Permits are NOT Accepted).• Must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D. and provide an official transcript for high school or G.E.D. training. Any post high school transcripts should also be submitted.• Must provide reliable documentation for proof of age (minimum 18 years of age).• Complete application form.• Must be physically and mentally able to learn to safely perform essential functions of the job.• Must be able to get to and from work at job sites anywhere within the geographical area that this apprenticeship program covers.• Must be able and willing to attend all related classroom training as required to complete their apprenticeship.• Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles and towers of various heights.• Must be able to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes, trenches, and crawlspaces.• Must be able to regularly lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. On occasion, lift objects weighing above 50 pounds.• Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold temperature conditions.• Must be able to visually distinguish between colors.• Must be able to operate two-handed power equipment.• Must be able to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings.• Applicants selected for apprenticeship must have personal access to a PC or laptop andreliable internet access in order to complete homework assignments.• Must be able to pass a drug screen and job task assessment upon being selected into the apprenticeship program.
NJATC Aptitude Test• Once the applicant has completed the application requirements, they are scheduled to take an aptitude test,which is given at the training center. The test covers algebra skills and reading/comprehension. The applicant must receive a passing score in order to qualify for an oral interview.
Interview with the Southeast Iowa JATC:• Those applicants who obtain a qualifying score on the NJATC Aptitude Test will be invited to have an oral interview with the Interview Committee. Qualifying applicants will be notified in writing of their interview date and time.• Written offers of apprenticeship will be extended to those selected for the program. If selected to enter this training program, a drug/alcohol test and pre-employment physical are required.Applicants interviewed, but not initially selected, will remain active in the Apprenticeship Applicant Pool for possible selection for a period of one (1) calendar year from the interview date, unless they request that their name be removed from the list or if they fail to meet a drug screen test. Any application that is found to have been submitted with false information will automatically be voided and the person will be removed from the apprenticeship program.
