Youngstown Area Electrical Apprenticeship (Apply online!)
The Youngstown Area Electrical JATC delivers high quality training to apprentices of all different levels of education. The trade school supplies competent, well-educated journeyman workers along with continuing education classes relevant to the electrical construction industry.
Electrical apprentices will plan, assemble and install all electrical apparatuses, equipment, fixtures and wiring used in electrical systems for maintenance, renovation and new construction projects. Other tasks may include installation, connecting and troubleshooting of electrical machinery, control devices, industrial equipment and signal communications systems.
Inside/Commercial/Industrial electrical apprenticeship program
This five-year program includes a minimum of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 900 hours of classroom instruction.
Starting wage is 40% of the Journeyman wage (advancement corresponds with satisfactory progress on both on the job reports and academics).
The probationary period is 1,000 hours (generally the first year of training). Administrative and textbook fees are determined annually.
Upon indenture, apprentices will be required to purchase the tool package.
Residential electrical apprenticeship program
This three-year program includes a minimum of 4,800 hours of on-the-job training and 480 hours of classroom instruction.
Starting wage is 60% of Residential Wireman wage (advancement corresponds with satisfactory progress on-the-job reports and academics).
The probationary period is 1,000 hours (generally the first year of training). Administrative and textbook fees are determined annually.
Upon indenture, apprentices will be required to purchase the tool package.
Requirements
Applicants for the Youngstown Area JATC apprenticeship program must meet specific criteria to qualify. They must:
Be at least 17 years of age to apply
Provide a signed Transcript with a passing grade of algebra
Possess a valid driver’s license
Students 17 and older can apply however you must be 18 years old and graduated or have a GED to be selected into the program
Applications are accepted all year.
Apprenticeship classes generally start in the fall.
Depending on the time of application the process may take from 6 months to 1 year to be completed.
Applicants may apply for both the commercial and/or residential program(s) for no additional test fee.
