Electrical Apprenticeship Opportunites

Inside Wireman install and maintain all of the various types of electrical systems found in commercial and industrial facilities. Equipment used may include lighting, receptacles, motors, heating equipment, and systems that control the operation of all of a facility's energy usage.

The Inside Wireman installs conduit systems that contain wire from the motor control centers panelboards to all of the equipment that uses electricity. Those conduits may contain power cables or control cables. Many of the conduit systems are exposed and must be installed to exacting standards using neat and workmanlike craftsmanship.

The work of an Inside Wireman can vary. One day the Inside Wireman could be installing a Fire Alarm System or Security System in high rise buildings and the next day he or she could be installing conduit in a ditch on the outside of the building. Inside Wiremen also install electrical systems in industrial facilities such as chemical plants, power plants, chip manufacturing facilities and automobile plants. Each type of installation has specific electrical needs and systems to support those needs.

General Qualifications:

-Meet minimum math requirements – show one full year of high school algebra with a passing grade or an equivalent post-high school algebra course with a passing grade.

-High school graduate, or have a GED with Percentiles, in place of high school diploma or provide a two year associates degree or higher.

-Provide an official transcript for high school (year or years completed); GED (from State Dept. of Education); or post-high school education and training. Note: Associated high school transcripts must also be submitted with GED.

-Have a qualifying score on the electrical trade's aptitude test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research. (Aptitude Testing will be held in the late fall of 2026.)

-Copy of a valid Driver’s license.

-Copy of your Birth Certificate.

-$40 application fee payable in cash, check, or money order only.

-Any MA-certified school or work hours in the electrical trade.

-Must reside in Southeastern MA or the Cape Cod and Islands area.

-Those in the Military also provide a DD-214 to Verify Military Training/Experience.

-Initial drug screening is required of all who are selected to enter the apprenticeship and are subject to annual and random testing.

Terms of Apprenticeship Training:

-Length — 4 Years Night School/minimum of 8000 hours on-the-job training.

-Related classroom instruction/minimum of 225 hours per year (Sept–May).

-CPR/First Aid and OSHA training.

-Indentured to the Brockton Electricians Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee and assigned to an electrical contractor signatory to IBEW Local 223.

-Starting pay — 40% of the Journeyman wage.

-A probationary period is 1000 hours OJT or 6 months and also successful completion of related classroom training.

-Wage increases are determined by advances in the period based on satisfactory on-the-job and classroom performance.

-College credit for related classroom instruction.

-Pay increases of 3–5% of the Journeyman level rate of pay every 1000 hours commensurate with satisfactory academic and on-the-job performance.
