Senior Power BI Developer

Peak Performers has partnered with a Texas State Agency to assist in their search for a hybrid Sr. Power BI Developer in Austin,Tx. In this position, you will be responsible for architecting and delivering robust business intelligence, reporting, and data visualization solutions that enable agency-wide insight and informed decision-making. 

Major duties

• Architect and deliver Power BI business intelligence, reporting, and data visualization solutions that support agency-wide decision-making.
• Build complex dimensional data models and develop interactive dashboards and reports.
• Transform data into clear, actionable visual narratives for business and technical stakeholders.
• Participate in the full software development life cycle, including discovery, requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, deployment, documentation, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with business analysts, developers, data professionals, architects, QA staff, project leadership, and business stakeholders to define requirements and deliver reporting solutions.
• Evaluate data sources and dependencies, contribute to technical design decisions, and establish appropriate data models.
• Validate data accuracy, support user acceptance testing, and coordinate changes across reporting, application, database, and integration components.
• Produce secure, accessible, maintainable, testable, reusable, and supportable reporting solutions.
• Follow team standards for source control, peer review, release management, documentation, defect resolution, and change management.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data quality, data transformation, semantic models, application workflows, performance, security, and deployment.
• Estimate work, communicate status, respond to changing priorities, and help maintain overall solution quality.
• Lead projects, coordinate reporting workstreams, conduct technical reviews, establish development standards, and mentor team members as needed.

What are we looking for?

• 8+ years of hands-on experience transforming complex datasets into performant data models and developing advanced Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, and DAX calculations.
• 4+ years of experience with Power BI workspace management, gateway configuration, scheduled refreshes, and data security.
• 4+ years of experience participating in multiple phases of the SDLC, including requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment.
• 4+ years of experience with data validation, reconciliation, defect analysis, and troubleshooting.
• 2+ years of experience using source control and structured deployment or release processes for Power BI.
• 2+ years of experience designing and supporting Power BI solutions that integrate with broader applications and data pipelines.
• 2+ years of experience documenting technical designs, data mappings, business rules, and calculations.
• 2+ years of experience working directly with special education and public education data sets.
• Preferred experience with SAS, Jira, and BI tools such as SAP or Tableau.

• W2 Contract
