Material Handler I


The Material Handler I performs a variety of warehouse, recycling, and material handling duties in support of Distribution Center operations. This position safely processes donations and merchandise while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards.


Role and Responsibilities

  • Sort donations and merchandise into designated commodity streams in accordance with current operating procedures. 
  • Process, stack, palletize, and prepare merchandise and recyclable materials for storage, shipment, or sale. 
  • Safely operate: 
  • Manual pallet jacks 
  • Tippers 
  • Trash compactors 
  • Vertical balers 
  • Max-Pak horizontal balers 
  • Load tippers, balers, and compactors safely and efficiently. 
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas. 
  • Inspect assigned equipment prior to use and report maintenance or safety concerns. 
  • Follow all Goodwill Central Texas safety policies and Standard Operating Procedures. 
  • Accurately report accidents, incidents, hazards, or damaged equipment. 
  • Work collaboratively with leadership and peers to support daily production goals. 
  • Maintain a professional image when interacting with customers, donors, and team members. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • Previous warehouse, manufacturing, recycling, or distribution experience preferred. 
  • Ability to obtain internal equipment certifications within required timeframes. 
  • Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions. 
  • Ability to meet production and quality expectations. 
  • Strong attendance and reliability. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Physical Requirements 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs as needed and walk warehouse floors and outdoor lots.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, or crouching in operational areas.
  • Exposure to dust, heat/cold and outdoor work areas.
  • Must be able to safely navigate GCT outlet and post-retail facilities.
